2018 Shenandoah & Skyline Drive Tour

Shenandoah & Skyline Drive Tour
July 26-29, 2018

This will be our first trip to the Winchester, VA and Front Royal, VA area. We will be staying at the Shenandoah University which is in Winchester, VA. The accommodations are air-conditioned dorm rooms, each having its own private bathroom. Each room is double-occupancy and provides two XL twin beds, desks, and chairs. There is also a lounge with TV and a washers and dryers in the building. You’ll need to pack linens, a pillow, and a towel and bring them along.

Details Coming Soon!

(Participants must be Premier Bicycle Club members.  To join, click here.)

The dining hall is directly across from the University Inn where our rooms are located so you’ll be able to enjoy your breakfast before heading out for your ride each day.

Lunch and dinner are on your own and are not included in the price. Suggestions will be made and groups will likely gather to meet and eat. Since most will be out riding one of the routes each day, there will be places to explore along the way with opportunities to grab a bite to eat for lunch while out on the road. We’ll have prearranged places to meet for dinner for us all to socialize and talk about our ride that day. There are Vegan (Sona Restaurant and Thai Restaurant) and Standard fare places to enjoy your meals.
If you prefer motel accommodations, there are many choices in the area. If you prefer this option, you can handle those arrangements on your own. However, even if you are staying off campus, you must complete a registration and waiver form by June 30, 2017 and mail it to: Premier Bicycle Club, 131 Walcott Drive, Gibsonia, PA 15044.

Routes & Cue Sheets

Routes and cue sheets will be emailed prior to the event to each participant. There will be various routes ranging from shorter to longer distances.  Most routes start at remote starting points not far from the SU campus.  We set this up so riders can avoid the higher traffic areas around the university as they start their day of riding. You can choose to ride with a designated group leader or head out on the route of your choice. The only restriction is that you not ride alone since no SAG will be available. Organized rides with leaders will be offered Friday, Saturday and early Sunday. There will also be a Skyline Drive route for those seeking more challenge and one-of-a-kind scenery from atop.

Things To-Do

There’s always plenty to do and see in the area whether you are on or off the bike. Visit Old Town Winchester which offers a variety of shops and restaurants along the pedestrian mall and is accessible by car or by bicycle. There’s a Farmers Market on Saturday mornings from 9 am to 1 pm.

You’re encouraged to bring along a non-riding spouse or friend; they too will enjoy this beautiful area of our country. While you’re riding they may want to hike a section of the Appalachian Trail, which runs the length of Shenandoah National Park. Parking and trailhead access is plentiful throughout the park. The trail is well maintained, but bring a sturdy pair of hiking shoes since some sections are a bit rocky.
