HomeRails-To-Trails Info

Welcome to Rails to Trails where we ride at a more casual pace and explore the sights and sounds off the beaten path on former railroad lines. In general, any assents are limited to 3% grade, so no challenging hills to climb…just consistent pedaling as we explore towns and the countryside. We don’t compete with cars, but we do take great care in crossing roads, and need to be mindful of walkers, joggers and other bicyclists on the trail.

It's important to be safe on the trail, not only for yourself, but also for other fitness enthusiasts who use the trail every day. The video below reminds you of some important responsibilities you have on the trail.

Beginning in mid-May 2023, we will endeavor to have a weekly trail ride, usually on Fridays and Sundays. Three will be on local trails in the greater Pittsburgh area, and one ride will feature a trail about a one-hour drive from Pittsburgh.

The posted speed will be 10-13 mph. The ride leader will ensure that no one rides alone. Faster riders are welcome to ride ahead and wait at designated meeting places.

We also plan for a meal, drink or coffee either at the halfway point or at the end of the ride. We like to patronize establishments along the trail. We have enjoyed breweries, restaurants and coffee shops on past rides.

Join us for a relaxing social ride!
